There's nothing worse than dried up wedding cake, coated in thick sugary fondant. You've sat through the ceremony, the luke warm meal, the mandatory dances and speeches and to cap off the night, you're served mono-flavor, three day old grocery store cake. Mmmm boy, I'll have another slice of that. NOT. Well, thankfully, there are options and not just the current candy bar trend. I'm talking about a cake buffet. Options for your guests to drool over, choose from and savour. Each and every bite.
One of my favorite aspects of my own wedding was our cake buffet. It was sublime. We did have a traditional cake (to appease the MOB) and groom's cake, which were works of art and truly delicious (Elizabeth of EB Cakes = miracles worker). And just in case guests wanted a third or fourth or fifth option, they had a cake buffet to choose from! We had six different flavors from a local bakery and yes, we tasted each and every one! MMMmmm.. The cakes and buffet were set out in the garden with votives and luminaries everywhere. It was pure magic and pure finger looking goodness. Guests enjoyed picking their own fresh favorite flavor, whether it was red velvet, german chocolate or coconut, etc. Indecisive guests could take home a few different slices. It was a big hit and would be perfect for the bride who just can't settle on one flavor. Or why not have a desserts only reception for the budget conscious bride?
Lastly, I must mention the biggest perk- we were able to save a slice of each cake in addition to the top tier of our cake, ensuring our first year of marriage was a sweet one!
